Gallops

This is one place that you simply must visit. Gallops is by the Mahalaxmi Race Course. It is one of the finest restaurants in the city with a unique and exclusive view of the race course. There is a lawn outside as well, which is great for the cool winter dinners. The entire place has a very romantic touch to it.

Italian and Indian cuisines are served at Gallops. The Chicken Stagranoff is an extreme delight in the Italian section, whereas the Indian kababs such as Kali Mirch Kabab and Chicken Tikka are equally good. The main course of Italian as well as Indian is simply delicious. The quantity too is decent. A nice windowed corner facing the race course is ideal for a romantic dinner. The other surprise at Gallops is that of the morning Breakfast. You simply have to try it. A nice walk around the race course is sure to build up an appetite fit for a king's breakfast. The fresh juices along with eggs and toast, are simply heavenly.

The downside of Gallops is that, they don't take reservations, and weekends are always packed. You can however call and book, to have a 'preference' over other walk-in guests.
My opinion of the place: you simply must come to Gallops. And if you are looking for company, just call me and I will be there!

Tiffins

After reviewing a 5-star restaurant, followed by a happening family restaurant, I feel the urge to write about something different. And Tiffins is the first thing that comes to my mind, when I think of different. This small shack is in line with 3 others at Turner Road Junction, Bandra. Your first impression of the place is definitely not one of awe. It looks like 'just-another-local-chinese' joint. However, this innocent looking place springs up some real good suprises. The Board outside reads 'Authentic Chinese Cuisine'. This however is very far from true. If you want authentic, this place is just not cut for you. If good 'Indian chinese' is what you are loooking for, then Tiffins is Mecca.

Rule of thumb at Tiffins: Don't order your regular chinese food here. This has been closely guarded secret of mine... till now. I have taken many friends (actually anybody who has been a friend of mine for more than a month, has definitely visited this place one) to this place, but always refrain from telling the name of the dish that I order and they love.

The starters in Tiffins are simply delicious. There are too many good items to mention. But, some of his specialities are : Crunchy Chicken, Chicken Spindler, Chicken Shanghai and Prawn Salt n Pepper. Please feel free to replace any of the chicken or any other non-veg dish with paneer.

In the main course, you can try the Stewed Noodles or the Korean Rice along with a Udi Chicken or Salsa Lamb.

A warning though, the food is pretty hot for some to handle. Also, don't fall into the trap of ordering the same item elsewhere, or you will be in for a rude shock.

On the whole, this Chinese Dhaba is definitely the place to visit if you are in an adventerous mood for some hot chinese food.

Sheetal Bukhara

Sheetal Bukhara is second home to me. I have been visiting the place for over 6 years now and the food is undoubtedly one of the best you will find in the city's suburbs. The place is mostly frequented by families and you will find the odd neighbour being entertained as well. It has bright vibrant lighting which goes perfectly with the place's energy. If you are in a large group and would like to be 'not so civilized' ask the stewart to show you a table below. Its perfect for having birthdays and get-togethers.

As far as the food goes, the kababs are one of the finest you can get. The onion salad served with the kababs is a must side dish. This is one of the places where I rarely ask for the menu card, as I know most of his dishes by-rote. I highly recommend the Chilli Milli Kabab and if you want something completely different and unique, try the Malaysian Kabab, it is simply out of this world. On the gravy front, you have your regular basket of chicken tikka masalas and you can also try the Bukhara Special Chicken. Though, the place is mainly known for its Indian cuisine, his Chinese starters are worth a try here. Additionally, for the vegetarians, you can simply replace any of the about non vegetarian items with paneer instead.

Bottom Line: If you haven't dined at Sheetal Bukhara, you haven't dined in Mumbai at all!

The Palms

The Palms is the coffee shop at "The Hilton Towers" (earlier known as "The Oberoi Towers"). A warm feeling is what you can expect as soon as you step inside this place. Pick a table next to the rear windowed corners and enjoy the beautiful greenery and sea view.

The Palms like most other fine coffee shops, has a multi-cuisine menu. The food at Oberoi is not generally one of its strong points, however The Palms seems to be an exception to that rule. Its menu selects the best of what Oberoi has to offer in the various cuisines and puts it in one neat package. I had tried a continental chicken (Schnitzel) and a Penne (tomato based). Both were decent and the quantity was surprisingly good. The staff is one of the friendliest you will find. The live music just adds to the zest of the place.

They also have a lavish spread in the buffet. The theme changes weekly, so its advised to first find out, what they have this week, before planning a lunch or dinner buffet here. The desserts are absolutely divine and are a must try here. The 'Tiramisu' is my favourite here.

On the whole, The Palms is a very good experience and is a must visit.

Welcome!

A Warm Welcome to Where To Eat In Mumbai.

Here is a quick FAQ to familiarize yourself with the blog.

What is this blog about?
The Mumbai Food Guide is simply my views of the places that I have been to personally. Its about my experience there, the kind of food I got there and anything worth mentioning about the place.

What kind of places am I talking about?
Simply put, any place, where they serve edible food. I love frequenting different types of places with different cuisines. So my quest for good food takes me to the fine-dining 5-star restaurants as well as the local street dhaba. I am thinking that I may even include some vada pao stalls, as they are mumbai's staple fast food.

Why a blog on eating out in Mumbai?
Why not. There are many "food guides" available in the market. Of course, there is the "Rashmi Udhay Singh Good Food Guide". But, the difference between those guides and this blog is simply put: "I pay my bills at all the places that I eat at!"

So, I have absolutely nothing to gain, by praising some 5-star restaurant, just because I got a free meal or the chef is a personal acquantaince of mine.

Bon Apetite.
Gautam Mehra

P.S. No offense to Rashi Udhay Singh, though, her guide is really one of the best you can find in the market and loved by many.
